Historical village of Hoog Soeren

Surrounded by beauty near Van der Valk | De Cantharel

In the midst of the vast forests of the Veluwe lies the historic village of Hoog Soeren. One of the highest villages in the Netherlands (85 meters above sea level). This charming village exudes peace, nature, and royal history, and is completely surrounded by the Royal Forestry Het Loo, part of the Kroondomein Het Loo, still used today by King Willem-Alexander.

Thanks to its unique location, Hoog Soeren is the perfect starting point for walking and cycling tours through the largest continuous forest area in the Netherlands. Outside the hunting season, you have the chance year-round to spot red deer, wild boar, badgers, or even foxes.

In the village itself you will find monumental houses, a picturesque chapel dating from 1904, and artworks such as Paula in Dressing Gown by Maïté Duval. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the nearby Veluwse Golf Club, located at the edge of the village. With its inviting terraces and restaurants, Hoog Soeren is also a popular stop for hikers and cyclists, especially during the summer months.

Thanks to its royal heritage, unique location, and pristine nature, Hoog Soeren is a beloved destination for peace seekers and nature lovers. All just minutes away from Van der Valk Hotel Apeldoorn – De Cantharel.
